Teen

  • Teens seeking support are often grappling with their self-esteem, identity, relationships and school. Teens may be experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, disordered eating, thoughts of self-harm, or using substances.

    Dr. Matlock is an expert in working with teens and their parents.

    Treatment is personalized, and may include a combination of psychotherapy, family therapy, evidenced-based medication, as well as integrative approaches to nutrition, sleep, mindfulness and supplements.

    She is experienced in working with LGBTQIA+ youth.

  • As a parent, you are the expert on your kid. Parenting a teenager can be incredibly rewarding and challenging. A teen’s mental health struggle can impact the whole family dynamic. There may be tension in the parent-teen relationship or risky behaviors, and additional support can be very helpful. Dr. Matlock provides support and guidance to parents during treatment.

  • Dr. Matlock is a skilled and experienced teen therapist who brings psychotherapy to every aspect of care, and provides psychotherapy specifically for the developmental needs of teenagers.

Child

  • Often parents may seek help when a child is exhibiting anxiety, moodiness, obsessiveness, irritability, inattention, tantrums, struggles with eating or school. Parents may wonder if their child has ADHD. Or, there may be concerns about development and autism.

    Treatment is personalized and may include play therapy, CBT, medications, behavioral interventions, as well as integrative approaches to nutrition, sleep, movement and supplements. Dr. Matlock does not reflexively put children on medication. If medication is indicated, she will recommend the lowest effective dose and minimize side effects.

What to Expect

  1. Complimentary Call

Call or email to set up a complimentary 10-minute introduction call with Dr. Matlock to briefly discuss your treatment goals and answer any questions.

2. Intake Paperwork

You’ll receive intake paperwork electronically. To get the most out of your consultation, please complete and return prior to your first appointment along with any labs, psychological testing or medical records you would like to be reviewed.

3. Adult Comprehensive Consultation

During the 90-minute appointment, we’ll discuss a detailed account of your life circumstance, current symptoms, medical and psychiatric history and goals. At the end of the consultation session, Dr. Matlock will share initial diagnostic assessment and treatment recommendations. Dr. Matlock and the patient will discuss whether to proceed with treatment, establishing a doctor-patient relationship, or what plan would be the best fit for your needs.

• Child or Adolescent Comprehensive Consultation

Youth consultation involves parents and a few meetings:

  • 60-minute Parent appointment to gather child’s developmental, medical, psychiatric history, discuss concerns, strengths and goals.

  • One or two 45-minute appointments with child or teen. Depending on developmental stage, they will talk while playing or sitting together. Dr. Matlock is warm, kind, and makes every effort to help a child feel at ease.

  • 45-minute meeting with parents to discuss findings of consultation and initial recommended treatment plan. At the end of this consultation period, Dr. Matlock and the family will discuss whether to proceed with treatment and establish a doctor-patient relationship, or what plan would be best for the child’s needs.

Follow-up Appointments for Established Patients

Treatment is highly personalized and follow-up interval will be tailored to the patient’s needs and treatment plan. Adult follow up appointments are 50 or 25 minutes in length. Child appointments are 45 minutes or 25 minutes in length (may be 50 minutes for an older adolescent). 25 minute follow-up sessions are typically for medication focused appointments.

Some patients have a therapist and see Dr. Matlock for integrative psychiatry and medication primarily. This practice requires all patients to be seen at least every 4 months.

One-time Reproductive Psychiatry Consultation

This consultation is for those who are working with a psychiatrist and are seeking specific recommendations regarding pre-conception, pregnancy or postpartum integrative psychiatric treatment. Dr. Matlock will provide written recommendations and collaborate with your current provider and OB/GYN.

  • To provide truly confidential and personalized care, this practice is out-of-network with insurance companies. Your doctor will neither discuss your care with nor provide access to your treatment records to insurance companies. Some patients seek insurance reimbursement for psychiatric care. If you have out of network benefits, you may be reimbursed after meeting your deductible. Please check with your insurance regarding out of network coverage. This practice will provide you with a billing invoice “superbill” that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. If you choose to seek insurance reimbursement please be aware that insurance companies require disclosure of diagnostic and treatment codes.

    An app reimbursify.com can make reimbursement for out of network claims easy.

    Labs and prescription medications are processed through your insurance, and are generally covered with typical co-pays.

    Sliding scale option may be available for financial need. Please inquire if interested. Families with medicaid will automatically qualify for sliding scale.

    Reduced fees may be available for weekly psychotherapy sessions.

  • Appointments require 2 business days notice to reschedule or cancel. Appointments cancelled less than 48 hours in advance or no-shows will be charged the full fee, which is not typically reimbursed .by insurance. Business days do not include nights, weekends or holidays.

  • Some clients wish to discontinue or reassess their need for psychiatric medications all together. When there is appropriate stability and in alignment with patients’s values, Dr Matlock will partner with patients to decrease need for medications slowly, safely and sustainably.

  • Yes, Dr. Matlock values collaboration and co-treats with therapists regularly.

    For patients who have a therapist, at the outset of treatment visits typically occur every 2-4 weeks. As you start to feel better, visits often space out to every 4-12 weeks.

  • Yes, absolutely. Dr. Matlock sees patients for short and long-term psychotherapy.

    Dr. Matlock provides psychodynamic therapy for adults and adolescents, as well as psychodynamic play therapy for children. She has completed Internal Family Systems training with Drs. Richard Schwartz and Martha Sweezy, and weaves in IFS. She incorporates CBT, elements of CPT (cognitive processing therapy) and DBT skills when helpful. When working with families, she provides parenting support and can facilitate family therapy sessions.

    Therapy appointments typically occur once to twice a week during treatment.

    There are many types of therapy and many therapists. Feeling connected to your therapist and like they are a good fit for you is essential to treatment. Whether or not you see Dr. Matlock for therapy, she can provide guidance around what type of therapy would be most helpful for you. If you have tried therapy before and not felt results, it is possible that you may need a different modality. If Dr. Matlock recommends a type of therapy she does not provide, or if you prefer to have a separate therapist from your psychiatrist, she can help you connect with the right therapist for you.
