  • Yes! Dr. Matlock values collaboration and co-treats with therapists regularly.

For patients who have a therapist, at the outset of treatment visits typically occur every 2-4 weeks. As you start to feel better, visits often space out to every 1 to 3 months.

  • Yes, absolutely. Dr. Matlock sees patients for psychotherapy.

Dr. Matlock provides psychodynamic therapy for adults and adolescents, as well as psychodynamic play therapy for children. She has advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, including psychoanalytic developmental theory, transference-focused, mentalization-based, and attachment. Psychodynamic therapy is particularly helpful for those healing complex trauma, childhood trauma, persistent depression or anxiety, attachment and relational concerns.

She has completed Internal Family Systems (IFS) training with Dr. Richard Schwartz and Dr. Martha Sweezy, and weaves in IFS. She incorporates mindfulness, CBT, elements of CPT (cognitive processing therapy) and DBT skills when helpful. When working with families, she provides parenting support and can facilitate family therapy sessions.

Therapy appointments typically occur once to twice a week during treatment.

There are many types of therapy and many excellent therapists. Feeling connected to your therapist and like they are a good fit for you is essential to treatment. Whether or not you see Dr. Matlock for therapy, she can provide guidance around what type of therapy is likely to be most helpful to you. If you have tried therapy before and not felt results, it is possible that you may need a different modality. If Dr. Matlock recommends a type of therapy she does not provide, or if you prefer to have a separate therapist from your psychiatrist, she can help you connect with the right therapist for you.

  • Some clients wish to discontinue or reassess their need for psychiatric medications all together. When there is appropriate stability and in alignment with patients’s values, Dr Matlock will partner with patients to decrease need for medications slowly, safely and sustainably.

  • Unfortunately due to medicare regulations, this practice is not able to see patients over 65 years old with medicare.
